From Allen,

My mother lives in central Illinois, in the mansion that the founder of the town, Hoopeston, lived in.

There have been several nights that we could hear foot-steps coming from upstairs when everyone was downstairs. We were all sitting in the back yard one night and could see a figure walking repeatedly past one of the second floor windows.

The original owner of the house,Thomas Hoopes, had died in his sleep in a bedroom on the second floor in the early 1900's.The entire bedroom outfit, including the bed, that belonged to him was still in the bedroom when my mother moved in three years ago.

When I lived with her, I stayed in that very same room. I would always see an image of a really pale face in the lower right hand corner of the window that was above the closet. The image appeared to be a man, staring at me.

The door to that room would always creak open at will.

However, the strange happenings were not limited to that room. One night I was on my way up to the attic to lift weights. My girlfriend, my mother and the three kids were on the second floor. My mom's husband,John, was on the first floor watching T.V. I myself, an ex-boxer and 28 years old at the time, walked up the steep oak steps toward the attic door and, as I reached for the door knob, it rattled three times and the door came open a crack. I never ran down a flight of steps so fast in my life. Everybody thought that I fell down the steps. After the inital shock wore off I went up to the attic, flipped on the light and saw nothing.
