From Melissa:

I had moved into a fairly new apartment building in richmond B.C., and it wasn't a year before I started to hear strange and unexplainable sounds. I was on the eleventh floor in a penthouse suite and, despite the fact that there was no one living above me, I would hear sounds of bouncing balls at all hours. It sounded like someone had dropped a ball and it would continue to bounce, bounce, bounce, then stop, and start up again. Other sounds that would keep me awake were rattling blinds in the spare bedroom or living room. I would get up to check these rooms, thinking I had left the windows open and that the wind was blowing the blinds, however, the windows were closed. Something else was rattling the blinds.

Another time I had a cousin staying with me. At aproximately six am I heard the cupboards opening and closing in the kitchen. I thought that it was rather early for her to be up fixing breakfast, and eventually fell back asleep. When we talked later in the day, I asked her if she hadn't been able to sleep, and if she usually got up so early. She was wondering the same of me and had also heard the cupboards opening and closing. There was no one else in the apartment which led me to believe that whatever was making the other sounds, had been opening and closing the cupboards.

I also heard a female's voice on occassion, when returning to the apartment. I initally thought it had been my cousin, and called out "hello". The voice stopped and my cousin was not in the apartment.

Other events which seemed strange to me, was my alarm clock going off at four am depsite the fact that it was never set for that time, or when listening to music my stereo would spontanteously turn off.

I eventually talked to the manager of the building who told me that another resident who had owned one of the suites often complained of the people upstairs from him being extremely noisy and always banging around, but no one lived above him (it was an empty suite). This man became so agitated by the sounds that he moved out before he was even able to sell his suite. Another resident in the building that I spoke with confirmed that their suite was also visited by strange sounds that could not be attributed to anything. It was also rumored that the the land the apartment was built upon had once been a burial ground. I didn't doubt this information as the apartment was also located next to an old church. I became so unsettled in this apartment and adopted a cat so that if I were to hear rattling or scratching sounds, I would be able to explain their cause (or atleast blame the sounds on the cat). After getting the furry feline, the strange stirrings eventually went away, and then I moved.
