From Steve

I live near a Town called Bury in Lancashire, England.  The first house i lived in (1958 to about 1966) was a talking point in our home village of Walmersley.

It still stands today and is a Semi-Detatched property on a housing estate just off the main road from Burnley to Manchester.  When we lived there, the back garden (Yard to you folks across the pond), was always wet with pond type plants growing all over.  Rhubarb also grew wild there which i am told is unusual.  (As a child in the early 60s i would sit out back dunking it in sugar and munching on it).

Even though I was very young at the time, I remember some strange occurences taking place.  Things moving of their own accord and sudden drops in temperature.  I also once saw a six-legged frog.

My mother still says that often, she would be going up or down stairs and would feel cold, and many times heard someone sigh right behind her.  She would look around but saw nothing, just feeling an uneasy presence and the hair standing up on the back of her neck.

When we moved out to another part of the village, the family that took over the house reported the same noises and drops in temperature, but one of the noises that we hadn't heard was that of a baby crying in the corner of the back bedroom.  These events carried on for some time and even a blessing from the local vicar didn't really help the situation.

After some time, the lady of the house had a baby boy.  For some reason she felt compelled to put  his cot in the bedroom where the crying was heard.  From that moment, the only crying she heard was that of her own child.

We did hear that someone carried out some research on the area and that long ago, when that area was all swamp land (hence the waterlogged back garden and pond plants) that a young boy had drowned on the spot where that house now stands.
