From Linda:

One night I was lying awake in my room one night. There was a window a few away from the foot of my bed. Just as I was beginning to get really drowsy, I thought I saw a man wearing a black trench coat standing on our neighbors' roof.

A few hours later, I woke up and, looking out the same window, I saw the same man standing in our backyard. I ran to my parents' room, terrified. I asked my parents if I could sleep in their bed. As most parent would, they said yes. Moments later the room got chilly so I got up to turn off the fan but it wasn't on. Then I looked over my shoulder and saw the man in the trench coat crying in the corner of the room. I closed my eyes and screamed.

My parents woke up and rushed over to me to see what was wrong when I opened my eyes the man was gone. My parents got mad at me for waking them up so they decided I should go back to my own room. As they walked me to my room all the doors in the hallway slammed shut. My parents both looked at me with a look of fear on their face that I had never seen before.

My brother came running down the hall and said, "Daddy, daddy there is a man on the nextdoor neighbors' roof."

My parents took us in their bathroom and told us to sit in the tub. They got a gun and came in with us and locked the door. There was a knocking on the door. Then we heard the crying man say, "I didn't do it because of you. It was me. I want you to know that you can still live without me."

Then there was silence. We stayed in the bathroom while my dad, still armed, checked the house. He found nothing. All the doors were locked. We all spent the remainder of the night in our parents' room.

In the morning my mom asked the people who had owned the house before us if anyone had died there and they said, no but that the next door neighbors' 16 year old son had jumped off the roof and landed in our backyard. We told the neighbors about our midnight visitor and they started crying and went over to a drawer and pulled out a picture of their son. Before killing himself, he wrote the following message on the back of his own photo and left it for his parents: " I didn't do it because of you. It was me. I want you to know that you can still live without me."
